Recipe Description

Homemade tortillas take a little extra time, but once you start eating them the store brand will taste like cardboard.

Ingredients

QuaUnitIngredient
2 cups Maseca
1 1/4 cups water
1/4 ts salt

Method & Notes

  1. Mix the Maseca with the salt and water.
  2. Mix for about 2 minutes
  3. Divide into 16 balls, cover with a damp towel
  4. Line your tortilla press with plastic wrap
  5. Press each of the tortilla balls until they are 5-6 inches in diameter.
  6. Cook the tortillas in an ungreased cast iron pan for about 45 seconds on one side.
  7. Flip the tortilla, then press firmly with your spatula. This is what gives the tortilla its layers and makes it much lighter.
  8. Cook until done.

If you don't have a tortilla press

You can press the tortillas between 2 large plates if you do not have a press.
